Outfit Ideas: Three Ways to Wear a Shawl Collar Sweater

Classic? Modern? Both.

The shawl collared sweater is officially “trendy” again, though here at SG HQ, we never fell out of love with this cozy, stylish sweater. Why not take advantage of the cold (or, for those of you in warmer states, “cool-ish”) weather, and rock yours this week? Or if you don’t yet have one, go shopping.

Below, three ways to work a shawl collar sweater into your wardrobe:

The hero piece: J.Crew, $198

 Outfit #1

Green Jean: AG Jeans, $182

Brown Chukkas: Cole Hann, $228

Brown Belt: Polo Ralph Lauren, $65

Perfect for a casual workplace. A little bit of edge, but still appropriate for meetings with the boss.

 Outfit #2

Dark Wash Jean: Hudson Jeans, $220

Charcoal Henley: Levi’s, $25

Black Sneaker: Lacoste, $70

Black Belt: 1901, $50

Saturday lunch date? Start with dark washed jeans, add a dark Henley, and go from there. You’ll have a look that’s casual, but everyone (including your date) will know there was effort put into it.

Outfit #3

Black Dress Pant: John Varvatos Star USA, $145

White Button Down: 1901, $20

Black Oxfords: Aston Grey Archer Oxford, $90

Black Belt: Nordstrom, $25

Put Casual Friday on notice. Start with a pair of black trousers, put a white button down on and instead of adding a tie and jacket layer on the sweater instead. You’ll look put together, appropriate, and – of course – stylish.
